A credit note always belongs to one invoice. It lowers that invoice’s balance first; anything beyond becomes the customer’s credit in that Brand and currency.

  1. Kind — in India with GST invoicing on: a GST credit note or a commercial one. See GST and commercial credit notes.
  2. Lines — credit some or all of a line’s quantity, or a price adjustment; tax follows the invoice line.
  3. Total — check the figures before issuing.
  1. Open the issued invoice

    More → Create Credit Note.

  2. Choose what to credit

Quantities, or a price adjustment on a line.

  3. Add the reason

    It prints on the note.

  4. Issue it

Numbered from the Brand’s CN- series straight away (no draft).

The credit note names its invoice on the page, the link and the PDF. In the UAE it’s titled Tax Credit Note.

Imported invoices

Invoices imported from your old system have no lines, so you credit by amount before tax. Each imported tax is reduced in the same proportion — 1,000 on 10,000 + CGST 900 + SGST 900 credits CGST 90 + SGST 90.

Using the credit

Credit left over can be applied to another invoice, refunded or kept. See Customer credit and advances.
