Correct, cancel or duplicate a document
Fix a mistake on an issued invoice or estimate the right way — without rewriting history.
Issued documents are records — they never change. When something’s wrong, choose the action that matches:
| The problem | Do this |
|---|---|
| Wrong details, nothing paid yet | Correct Invoice (or Correct Estimate) |
| The amount should be lower | A credit note |
| The amount should be higher | A debit note |
| Shouldn’t exist at all, nothing paid | Cancel it, with a reason |
| Same again for another month | Duplicate it |
Correct a document
- A new draft with the same content, for you to fix.
- When you finalize the correction, the original is cancelled and both are linked.
- Open the issued invoice
More → Correct Invoice.
- Fix the draft
Address, lines, dates — anything.
- Finalize the correction
It gets a new number; the original shows Cancelled, linked to it.
Correct Estimate works on open or declined estimates, and on accepted estimates with options while nothing has been made from them.
Invoices with recorded payments, applied credit or write-offs can’t be corrected or cancelled — use a credit note. The same goes for imported invoices with payments from before Hectile.
Cancel
More → Cancel, with a reason. The invoice stays in your records as Cancelled; its link shows it as cancelled. Cancelling a part invoice gives its share back to the estimate.
Duplicate
More → Duplicate makes a new draft with the same lines, for any customer. Options on estimates are kept.
Common questions
Does the corrected invoice keep the same number?
No. It gets the next number; the original keeps its own and shows Cancelled.
Can I cancel a credit note?
Owners and Admins can, while none of its credit has been applied or refunded.
