Credit notes and debit notes, without the headache
Something changed after you invoiced? A credit note reduces the invoice — line by line or by amount — and a debit note adds to it. Both name the invoice they belong to, keep their own numbering and flow into your reports and GST files.
What you can do with it
Credit notes
Against one invoice, by quantity, price adjustment or amount. Balance first, then credit.
Debit notes
Price increase, extra work, a tax correction or a late fee — with its own balance.
GST or commercial
In India, choose a GST credit note or a commercial one that leaves GST unchanged.
Always linked
Each note names its invoice on the page, the link and the PDF.
Four steps, no training needed
Open the invoice
More → Create Credit Note or Create Debit Note.
Choose what changes
Quantities or amounts; the tax follows the invoice line.
Issue it
Numbered from the Brand’s CN- or DN- series.
Balances update
The invoice’s balance, the customer’s credit and your reports follow.
The balance first, then credit
A credit note lowers its invoice’s balance first; anything beyond becomes the customer’s credit, ready to apply to another invoice or refund. The confirmation shows the figures before you issue.
For invoices you imported from your old system, you credit by amount — each imported tax is reduced in proportion. In the UAE, the document is titled Tax Credit Note.
Add to an invoice without reissuing it
A debit note is a document of its own with its own number, balance, reminders and Pay Now. The invoice it adds to never changes, and the customer sees both linked. Late fees are issued as debit notes too.

Can I issue a credit note for an imported invoice?
Yes — by amount. Each imported tax is reduced in the same proportion.
Do debit notes work outside India?
Yes. Debit notes are for every country; GST details appear only for Indian Organizations using GST invoicing.
Do notes appear in GSTR-1?
Yes. GST credit and debit notes go to the right tables; commercial credit notes are left out because GST doesn’t change.
